Opportunities

Borders ( UK ) is an equal opportunities employer. This means we are committed to treating all our employees and job applicants equally. We do not discriminate against any employee or job applicant on grounds of their race or colour, nationality, national or ethnic origin (together referred to as "race"), sex, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, belief, age or disability.

This ethos applies to all employees, contractors and workers, employed or engaged by the Company. We see all employees as personally responsible for their behaviour and expect them to treat every employee, potential employee, contractor or customer with empathy and respect.

Age Positive Age Positive Logo

The Age Positive symbol makes it clear to everyone that we are positive about people of all ages and the wealth of skills and experience that they can contribute. It also shows existing employees that we value their contribution and will treat them fairly, regardless of their age.

Borders ( UK ) have been awarded the Age Positive symbol on the basis of our recruitment process, training and promotional opportunities.

Disability Two Ticks Two Ticks Logo

Borders ( UK ) has been awarded the Disability Two Ticks accreditation having demonstrated fulfilment of five key criteria. These are;

  • To interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
  • To ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss at least once a year, with disabled employees, what they can do to make sure they can develop and use their abilities.
  • To make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in work.
  • To ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed.
  • Every year, to review the five commitments and communicate any progress and plans to all employees.

Sexuality

We plan to apply for Stonewalls Corporate Equality Index in 2006, showing the positive steps that Borders UK has taken towards engagement, reward and development of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual employees.
