Our structured Induction programme can be tailored depending on the needs and experience of the employee. We offer a robust appraisal system for all staff to support self-development and positive change. We also believe that it is important to support our leaders to continuously improve and help others develop.
Outlined below are a number of training initiatives currently available at Borders (UK).
We run internal ‘Excellence in Management’ Training courses at Introductory, Development and Advanced Levels. These residential training courses cover the following areas:

On completion of the course learners are issued with a tailored action plan to ensure learning is transferred from the classroom back into the Store.
The Accelerate Programme has been designed specifically for our talented Supervisors. The main aims of the programme are:
The “Accelerate” learning programme is made up of several different learning experiences including on-the-job learning, monthly workshops, and work-based projects.
The General/Store Manager Designate program is designed to bring in experienced managers from other businesses. These external managers have been identified for their current management capabilities. The program aims to induct these managers into the Borders (UK) business, with a thorough induction focusing on the operational aspects of a Borders or Books etc store and providing training on the Borders (UK) culture.
The Princeps Programme has been designed specifically for our talented managers in the Borders (UK) business. The main aims of the programme are:
The programme is made up of several different learning experiences including on-the-job learning, monthly workshops and work-based projects. It is externally accredited by the Institute of Leadership.
In Head Office we pride ourselves on being able to deliver tailored, flexible development solutions in line with individual and department needs.
The training department holds a range of books and e-learning solutions relating to personal, IT and role related development which is accessible to all Head Office employees.
Other development opportunities available to Head Office employees include external training courses and a professional development policy by which individuals can apply for support with professional, role-related qualifications.
