Famous authors are turning out for a children's festival this weekend which is being held in Cambridgeshire.

The writers will be attending the Linton Children's Book Festival which has had to schedule this years' events throughout the week, in addition to the weekend, because of the increase in number of activities.

Well known writers such as Tony Mitton, Stuart Hill and Axel Scheffler have pledged their support and are booked in for events.

Scheffler's Gruffalo story has sold over two million copies and in 2000 received a prize for the Best Book to Read Aloud as part of the Blue Peter Award.

Children's poet Tony Mitton, will be bringing his award winning poetry to the event on Saturday. On the following day Stuart Hill plans to entertain his audience with his adventure and fantasy tales.

Josephine Paterson, organiser, said she is pleased with the number of writers willing to get involved.

"There have been so many interesting, talented and enthusiastic people keen to contribute that I have had to extend it from a weekend to a week to fit everyone in," she added.

The festival has up to 14 speakers programmed to speak at the festival which is aimed at children up to 11 years old.
