Bale released on bail after assault allegation

Bale released on bail after assault allegation
23.7.2008

Christian Bale has been released on bail following allegations that he assaulted his mother and sister hours before the European premiere of his new film The Dark Knight.

The Welsh-born actor's mother Jenny (61) and Sharon (40) had travelled to London from their homes in Dorset to attend the premiere but an incident is reported to have taken place at the Dorchester hotel on Sunday night.

Bale was approached by police officers yesterday, after they had decided to allow him to attend the premiere in Leicester Square on Monday, and questioned for four hours at Belgravia police station.

The 34-year-old star has denied the allegation and has not been charged, say his lawyers.

Solicitors' firm Schillings said in a statement: "Christian Bale attended a London police station today [Tuesday], on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister.

"Mr Bale, who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police."
