<description>Two poets became joint winners of a poetry publishing award last week.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The Callum Macdonald Memorial Award was presented to Hazel Cameron and Duncan Glen last week at a ceremony held at the National Library of Scotland.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Prizes of &amp;#163;750 and the Callum Macdonald Memorial Quaich were shared between the joint winners.</description>

<title>Shortlist for 'African booker' released</title>

<description>African writers who have made it on to the shortlist for an acclaimed award have been named.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Five writers have been put forward to win the Caine Prize which is often referred to as the African Booker.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Judges will award the &amp;#163;10,000 prize to an African writer who has written the best short story. Entries are written in English and this year the competition saw over 90 writers apply from up to 17 African countries.</description>

<title>Crime Awards to be televised</title>

<description>An awards show dedicated to crime fiction will be televised for the first time in June.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The event will be hosted by Cactus Television on ITV3 and is taking place at the Grosvenor Hotel in London. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;The channel has announced that the awards show will be preceded by six weeks of documentaries which examines the life and success of well renowned crime writers such as Ruth Rendell, Val McDermid and Lynda La Plante.</description>

<description>A writer who has twice won the Booker prize has praised an unknown author whose novel will soon reach the UK.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Martin Edmond's book, Luca Antara, attracted the attentions of James Coetzee who won the Nobel prize for literature in 2003 and the Booker prize in 1983 and 1999. It is due to hit UK shelves on May 27th and is published by Oldcastle Books.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Edmond's novel delves into the history of Australia, which was once called Luca Antara. He follows the life and experiences of a Portuguese servant in the 1600s who is sent by an explorer to discover more about the country. </description>

<description>Period drama Cranford is leading the pack for the upcoming Bafta TV awards, securing four nominations.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Dame Judi Dench is up for best actress, alongside her co-star Dame Eileen Atkins. The two stars, both 73, played sisters in the series.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Based on the books by Elizabeth Gaskell, the BBC adaptation has also been nominated for best drama serial, up against Murphy's Law, Britz and Five Days, and audience programme of the year, along with Strictly Come Dancing among others.</description>
