Stereophonics play free gig

Stereophonics play free gig
15.5.2008

Welsh band the Stereophonics are playing a free concert at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on the next bank holiday Monday.

The band will be performing as part of a free event that has been organised to celebrate the 2008 Grand Slam which was won by the Welsh rugby team.

Other bands in the line-up include Feeder and solo singers Heather Small, from M People, and Rhydian Roberts, who starred in last year's X-Factor.

Roger Lewis, group chief executive of Welsh Rugby Union, said the event was free to encourage high audience numbers.

"We were determined that entry would be free because we want as many people as possible to show their appreciation.

"Next Bank Holiday Monday will be a day for rugby lovers, music lovers and anyone who is proud to be Welsh or passionate about sport in Wales," he added.

In 1998 the Stereophonics were named Best New Group and received a Brit Award.
