Martin reveals past as a cleaner

Coldplay are renowned for their clean-cut image, but lead singer Chris Martin has revealed that there is another reason why he never trashes hotel rooms - he used to clean them.

The 31-year-old singer said that, although other rock stars might have a penchant for throwing TVs and smashing up tables, he will always empathise with the cleaners who have to clear up the mess.

Martin, who is married to Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, told The Sun: "When you're a cleaner and you walk into a trashed room, it's truly annoying. All you want to do is go on your tea break - and you get faced with that.

"Spare a thought for the poor schmuck cleaning the room."

Coldplay have seen their latest album Viva La Vida or Death and all his Friends go to number one in more than 30 countries.
